I will never forget the Day I saw him the first Time perform at the Drummer Meeting in Lahnstein (Germany) must have been in 1991(+/_). We all did know nothing about him and he hit us like a Tornado! 💥What an Inspiration! 🙏
That’s awesome yes he was a tornado but a very positive and inspiring one!
My bestest investment the best
I heard that they don't make an 8" db one. Is there any way to use an 8" and have it blend with the other toms without the kinetic foam?
Hi, yes that’s true no 8” Tom. But no I don’t think it would work because the foam combined with the fabric of the head on the db one’s actually creates a note and tone. A real 8” would immediately over power the other heads.
What ride are you using?
It’s a Sabian HHX 20” Groove Ride. Great cymbal!
I was in high school band with Chris. He was ridiculous back THEN!
That’s awesome I went to the same music school as him but at different years,, thank god, as he was ridiculous in music school too, lol
@@drumteacher43 His bedroom was a bed, a dresser, and a drum set. 😄 That guy lived on the drums! Great guy.
@@Joshismyfriend2 yeah, thats the sacrifice you make to get to his level. Its a lot of work. in music school i was kinda like that too, hours of practice and study!!
His video came out years ago and people are STILL watching his video. He deserves it! He's that great!
Yes that particularl one is old your right. And he is great I agree!
This is the most important lesson. Thank you for posting this. RIP Dom.
Yes I’m glad you agree. He was brilliant and humble I miss him intensely. Every moment I was with him I always felt like I was growing as a human being not just a drummer
What do you think of the Evens Hydraulic drum head Clear
The glass hydraulic head? It’s the same as the red and blue in terms of design function etc. the glass is just a reflective design but exactly the same as regular hydraulic heads. Check out my recent video on hydraulic reds; ua-cam.com/video/NGRPJaJjMJI/v-deo.htmlsi=5gGB-hJbJpKmsx7M
Where is Dave Mattacks?
On somebody else’s list I guess!
The toms sound quiet, but the snare sounds way too loud. I think if you got another tom head and put that on the snare, it’d be perfect.
No, snare is not loud at all it has a snare quality which all snares have that makes them louder. All snares are louder than Tom’s But in this case if you heard it in the room you would think it’s pretty quiet!
@@drumteacher43I just think you’d be better off using a 14” tom head on your snare drum if you want a quieter setup, which is what these are for. I appreciate the idea behind it, though.
I have recenly been in another in another 'heated debate' ... this time regarding Ringo Starr vs Buddy Rich ... yeah I know right LMFAO ! One guy said Ringo who is left handed and plays on a right handed kit gave him the "Beauty of originality". Nope, sorry, just wrong. Left handed drummers on right handed kits, and vice versa, is not unusual. Starting from scratch, it makes no difference. Likewise LH on RH guitar. Pianos are never left handed (apart from a couple of bizarre experimental/novelty attempts) yet some of the greatest pianists are left handed. For many musicians, hours and hours of practice raise their weaker hand to the same level as the stronger one. As a result they are virtually ambidextrous. Ringo Starr was and still isn't anywhere near that level, especially live. When he's live you can hear uneven quavers, poorly executed rolls, and sloppy breaks that overshoot the bar. Rich was brilliant, and arguably the best technician ever with phenomenal speed but but he was also an obnoxiously arrogant asshole. In my opinion (for what it's worth to the disillusional Ringo Fanatics) the best drummers (indeed musicians) of the modern era are the session players who turned BOTH of their hands to numerous different styles.... Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, Jeff Porcaro, Simon Phillips etc. Quite frankly they make the former Beatles drummer sound like a five year old bashing saucepans with wooden spoons. Interesting that "Ringo Starr's all Star band" has always featured a second brilliant drummer, including the wonderful Jim Keltner to cover the more technical stuff as he just sits there playing straight 4/4. He has never appeared without a second drummer since the Beatles disbanded ... EVER, and that on it's own speaks volumes ! Ringo is at best an ordinary, barely adequate drummer, a crappy singer, and an absolute shite actor. HE MAY WELL BE THE LUCKIEST MAN ALIVE !!!!
I totally disagree with your comment. All the guys you mentioned all idolize or idolized Ringo so your way off using those guys in your comment. You’re missing the whole point of my video!
Neverending list and debate forever giving good ideas.Love u got Jeff Porcaro suxs he passed at 38,one of my faves with Toto and he helped many great Artists in the greatest decade of all time never to forget miss it so much oh hail the 80s atmosphere could harp on and explain vibes and feelings like no other time or place in history.Did u have Paicey,Cozy,Carl Palmer, Philthy Animal Taylor(Motorhead)Clem Burke(Blondie) Robbie Bachman (BTO) Terry Williams (Dire Straits)Rick Allen (Def Lep) and a huge mention he never gets on the lists in the World 🌎 Tony Thompson super 🥁 (Chic and Powerstation)
You’re right it’s a never ending list!
I have used Evans Hydraulics blue and black matted just on my snares and on both my bass drums, and like it. Now am getting to that time to once again change heads on my toms. Now the only decision is to pick which type. I have a blue Tama with black heads. Red or Blue Hydraulics for that 80s metal sound. Btw loved how urs sounds. Keep the good work 👏 🙌 👍 👌
That’s cool, thanks for your comment!
Tim, a few years ago I bought a used Mapex 4 piece set. I decided to get some new heads for it. I had no idea about what head sounded like what. In fact I was quite overwhelmed with all the choices. I had a 12” snare, 10” rack tom, and a 12” floor tom. I found the Evan Hydraulics at a very reasonable price and bought them. Since then, I have added drums to my set and have Evans Hydraulics on all 10 of my drums. The main thing I really like about your video is that you didn’t electronically enhance the sounds of your drums. We got the true natural sounds. Thank you for sharing this with us.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
@gregwonhoff7161 wow 10 piece is a large kit! Thanks for your comment I’m glad you liked it. While I did do a portion of raw unmiked video there is also a short mic’d portion too. To get both perspectives raw and mic’d
I use the same technique and also see it making sense to bring the beater off of the head and be ready for the next hit as one does on a snare drum for example. Works alright for me.
Great stuff! Yes it makes total sense
Do you think the drums would be even quieter with no bottom heads?
I never tried that. But I know the note would die quickly so yes probably!
My brother got flo's signature for my back patch at a show for me cause I broke my hip skateboarding and couldn't make the show... unbelievably grateful 🙏 can't wait to see them with Death To All on May 30th!
That’s awesome and enjoy the show!

@NONE_SO_VILE Thanks for your comment! It’s people like you who make it enjoyable to return comments! Plus I enjoy the interaction with viewers/subscribers
Appreciate you sharing... The Snare sounds better than other videos I have watched
sounds sick!
I'm not going to make a comment for or against Ringo but ask a question. Why is it that since the Beatles broke up Ringo has never appeared behind a drumkit without another drummer to back him up ? I wasn't a Beatles fan to be honest even though I was in my early teens when they appeared. I think there are many many drummers technically better than Starr but having said that he was the right fit for that band.
Because it’s hard to sing all the songs and drum at the same time! I saw Ringo’s show he’s old and he does play on some songs but Gregg plays most!
@@drumteacher43 ... Don Henley manages it alright ...
Hmmm, the coated G2 I think 🤔.and the good old Hydraulic for recording or really small gig venues.
I like coated and clear G2 mainly but I’m going to try out some red hydraulics very soon!
A paying gig is a paying gig!
That is true! I’ve done sub gigs in the past at children’s shows and they paid well! $$
Ive seen this before, ya when he breaks out the double bass right. Just crazy right and that girl not even caring is hilarious haha.
Yeah, I love it. Blast beats at a children’s concert, lol.
@@drumteacher43 right lol
oooooooo dang! killing!
Neil Peart is a lot better by far and John Bonham's to Danny Carey he's ok but not lighting it on fire!!
I understand your interpretation, and I appreciate it. This is Dave Abbruzzese here. You're working way too hard. It's a much simpler groove. Keep an eye on my UA-cam channel. I'm going to break it down soon. Thank you for taking the time to share your interpretation of the part. I enjoyed it and I am honored to have created something that inspired you to spend time on it! 🫵
I feel like Danny heard some Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart and taught himself to play their duals himself. He's an octopus with a metronome in each appendage.
lol yup maybe! He is very talented at playing polyrhythmic phrasings!
Glad to see that people are saying this.
excellent ideas!!!
Thanks!
Good morning greetings from South Bend, WA, Tim. Thank you for the cool drill. I am going to give it a whirl.❤️🙏👏❤️🙏👏❤️
Awesome, glad you liked it. Stay loose, relax and breath to build the speed! Use a metronome if you can! 😎🥁
Singer gargling with bleach " 😂 sounds like he's singing about ned from deliverance" squeal little 🐖 pig" eeeeeeerrrrrrhhhhhh" lolololololololol
This is awesome I used to go in Long and McQuaid years ago when I was with my band from Oakville .
Nice, yeah they treat me well there. Aaron and Iain are both excellent in the drum department
RIP Dom!
From my point of you - but it's subjective of course - I'm really missing Thomas Lang. I don't know, what role Ringo Star should play here. During an interview with the Beatles, when being asked, if Ringo is the best drummer of the world, John Lennon said seriously: "he's not even the best in the band"... but most of the listed guys would also be on my fav list.
Thomas is great only 40 make it. Ringo is one of the true greats and John was just joking he knew how great Ringo was it was just gesture that comment has been taken out of context since he said it. Check out my Ringo video I just put out to find out why Ringo ( the king of groove is on the list )
Wow-he seemed to be getting more good looking and charismatic with age-worldès happiest drummer!
He was incredibly charismatic! He was the same in person as he was on stage or in a video or anything. He was a true gentleman and dynamic leader in drumming and life! I miss him intensely!
@@drumteacher43 Technically I play percussion too-piano. I love that vid where heès playing drums, gets kicked out ot the mall trying to play Eye of the Tiger by Survivor.
No Al Jackson, no Benny Benjamin, no Stanley Rudolph......no list.
All great, only 40 can make the list. My list is very sound! I’m very confident in my choices!
ANIMAL of the Muppets 😁
Yes, you mean Ronnie Verrel, who was an English drummer of the highest calibre!
The latest misinformation going around is that Ringo once played jazz and that he'd had drum lessons before he joined The Beatles. ...and then there's Bernard Purdy's fantasy that it was him that played the drums on all the Beatles recordings.
I never heard the jazz thing but I witnessed Bernard respond to that question and his response was to just laugh it off. It was created by people to get views on UA-cam at no time did Bernard play on any Beatles tunes!
@@drumteacher43 Purdy's claim predates youtube. He's been saying it for decades.
@PhilRounds yes that’s true but the world never heard about it until somebody did a video about Purdy saying it on UA-cam
Purdy has never claimed to have played on ALL the Beatles recordings ... I think it was 22 he claimed to be on.
@ric66fb purdy didn’t play on any Beatles songs, it’s a myth. Don’t know exactly where it came from but I saw Purdy laugh it off at a drum clinic when asked about it
Get those earbuds out! And put on headphones!! You’re missing it!
That video was over 2 years ago and I was still figuring out how to do reactions properly. Moving forward things got better and I learned to balance sound between me talking and the performer.
Zach Hill from Death Grips?! He's an absolute monster.
I believe that the drummer that replaced Ringo when he left for the support band the Beatles was shit hot
I don’t understand your comment???
@drumteacher43 I thought you might know of him. He came over from Liverpool to Hamburg with George, and both were underage. His first night was to play as Ringo' s replacement for Rory Strorm and his hurricanes. Band player, not soloist. Close knit group.
@powerjets3512 oh yes ok now I understand, but I’m not to familiar with his actual playing so I can’t really comment
@drumteacher43 Rose to every Cuck.Berry trap and won each contest during European tour. I think in Rolling Sone a very famous guitarist was asked who was the best drummer he played with naming him. There are witnesses still around, but you need to get to Hamburg.
@powerjets3512 cool thanks for the info!
Ringo Starr of the Beatles? As oppossed to those other Ringo Starrs? LOL j/k. RIngo is great. Try playing the fill at the end of the bridge of "Tell Me Why."
Yes that’s the right Ringo, lol and yes I have played that filll in a Beatles tribute and I always loved playing that tune!!
@@drumteacher43 And yes, the hi hat in HELP! is that "in-between" dotted eight thing that was originally played on "Jailhouse Rock" , but Ringo plays it a LOT faster. It's a blend of stiff dotted eights or swung straight 8ths. NOT easy! And I love SOMETHING where he play no hi hat! It makes that slow tempo breathe and allows Mac busy melodic bass to come through. .Absolutely brilliant.
@NelsonMontana1234 the Ringo shuffle is a very unique and quite difficult feel to pull off!
Don't know how someone could hate Ringo. Thomas the Tank just isn't the same without him
lol, true
